Giles season ends, Jackson is the district player of the year

The Giles varsity girls' basketball team (8-13,5-5) lost to Auburn 57-50 in the first round of the Three Rivers District tournament last Wednesday to conclude their season.
The game was back and forth between the two schools in the first quarter, with Auburn first taking the lead at 7-4 before the Lady Spartans went on a 10-0 run to take the 14-7 lead. Lyndsey Jackson scored the first eight points of the quarter for Giles and Megan Fisher, Tiffany Cook, and Karli Beechler provided the other six points for Giles. Auburn responded with six straight points to trail by one at 14-13 before Fisher made a free throw to give Giles the 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Quarter two featured Auburn outscoring Giles 10-4 to take a 23-19 lead. Margee Ragsdale and Jackson provided the lone four points during that stretch. Auburn scored five more points while Giles scored two points to take the 28-21 lead going into the half. Ashley Flory provided the two points for Giles.
Though Auburn stretched their lead to eight at 31-23 in the third quarter, Giles slowly began to climb back into the game. They scored seven unanswered points, converting on Auburn turnovers to trail by one with about four and a half minutes left in the quarter. Michaela Ratcliffe provided buckets during the stretch and Fisher netted the free throw to put the score at 31-30. Auburn outscored Giles 12-4 however and they took a nine-point lead going into the final quarter of play.
The Lady Spartans went on a scoring run to start the final quarter, as they scored seven unanswered points to narrows the Auburn lead to two at 43-41, with Jackson scoring five of the seven points. She would later tie the game at 49 with a free throw with over a minute and a half left in the game.
The Lady Eagles went onto outscore Giles 8-1 to seal the victory.
Giles scoring: Jackson had 25 points, Fisher and Ratcliffe each had six points, Beechler had four points, Cook and Flory each had two points.
Jackson, Fisher named to all district team
Two Lady Spartans received honors in the district for their play on the court this past season. Jackson, a senior, was named Player of the Year as well as first team all district. Jackson hit higher plateaus in scoring after her 46 point game versus Eastern Montgomery, as she followed that effort with a 43 point effort versus Auburn, in which she surpassed the 1,000 point mark.
After that she averaged nearly 30 points per game, scoring 31 twice and 45 points once. She scored 237 points over the eight game period.
Fisher, the starting senior point guard, received honorable mention in the district. Early in the season, Fisher propelled Giles to a comeback in the team's first matchup with Narrows, scoring 10 points in the second quarter. Fisher was the second leading scorer behind Jackson during the three game win streak late in the season. Fisher scored 13, 16, and nine points during that stretch.
